This is really thinking outside the box. I have a birthday gift to mail and hate to have just a plain box. I may have gone just a little overboard, but the recipient is just like that, so I guess it will be ok.
The gift actually came in this little black box that is about 5″ square. I was playing around with Viva Decor Precious Metal Colour yesterday and, since it’s supposed to work on any surface, I thought I’d give this faux leather box a shot.
Supplies
Big Shot (Sizzix)
Flourish Die (Stampin’Up!®)
Viva Precious Metal Colour, Lime, Blackberry and Turquoise
Stipple brush
Krylon Easy Tack Repositionable Adhesive
Viva Pearl Pens, Magenta and Lilac
Freezer paper and tape
Directions
1. Wipe box to remove any dust.
2. Die-cut flourish from scrap cardstock.
3. Holding the can close to the surface, spray the shiny side of a 10″ square of freezer paper with Krylon Easy Tack. Lay each piece of the flourish on the paper and press to pick up adhesive.
NOTE: This is the neat way to do this. You could just lay it down on a piece of freezer paper and spray it. I prefer the other way so that (1) I don’t have to get up and go outside to spray, running the risk of hitting a pup and having him be sticky for a long time, and (2) I have an aversion to adhesive-coated workspaces. Been there, done that.
4. Place each piece on the box top. Lay a clean piece of freezer paper over the box, shiny side down, and rub or brayer the box to adhere the flourish.
5. Using a very small amount of Precious Metal Colour, begin with the Lime and pounce the brush up and down to distribute the paint. Use a small piece of freezer paper shiny side up, as a palette to clean off the excess from your brush. You can leave some of the background showing if you like. Add Turquoise, then Blackberry. Cover top and box top sides. Allow to dry.

5. Remove the cardstock flourish and save it for another project.

6. Outline the flourish and add dots with a Magenta Pearl Pen. Add additional dots with the Lilac Pearl Pen.
On looking back, I probably would prefer this with no additional embellishing past the brush stage. As I have said before, I’m not much of a glitter girl, but thought this needed something. Actually, the Viva black glitter pen would have been a much better choice. ( See “I knew the moment I met you that there was going to be an adventure.” – Winnie the Pooh, Aug. 16, 2010 post) The next time I have a black box to gussy-up, I’ll try that instead.
I hope you have a wonderfully creative week. I know I am!
