Well, we survived the candy-making marathon of 2010, but my internet didn’t apparently. I have been having spotty coverage since Sunday, which is why there was no post Monday. Hopefully, that is behind me now.

I am starting on my Christmas cards, and this will be one of them. I usually send out around 100 and make the first design until I get sick of repeating it and start another. This one should be fairly easy. It’s just inking and stamping. The hardest part is lining up the Joyeux Noel stamp (from Artistic Outpost) to get it straight. (more…)

finished tag

…no mistakes!

No matter what you do, you can always turn it over and work on the other side, cover it all up with dark ink and emboss it with light powder, tear the whole thing up and use it for collage elements or, take a tip from me and just glue something over it. That’s what I did with this little Christmas tag. (more…)

The feel of autumn is in the air. We’re not having as pretty a fall as we usually do here in west Tennessee, because of 100 days with no rain. However, our sweet little maple tree that we transplanted 23 years ago from our woods is starting to show off. The leaves are changing from the top down, so now it is crowned in orange and gold, and the green is still there at the bottom. (more…)

I belong to a very creative group of women in the Memphis, Tennessee area known as the River City Stampers. This group includes owners of two stamp companies, four Craft and Hobby Association Designer Members and several members who are on design teams for manufacturers and online groups as well as regular contributors to magazines. They really get my creative juices flowing! (more…)

Where in the world did I put that ATC?

Spring ATC

I love artist trading cards (ATCs) almost as much as I love making large art. ATCs are limited to 2 1/2″ X 3 1/2″, and the rules are that they cannot be sold, only traded, thus the title, Artist TRADING Cards. In the past few years, I have seen artists sell these in galleries and can only assume that they and the gallery owners are ignorant of the rules. Enough of my soapbox. (more…)

Sisters, sisters, there were never such devoted sisters…

sisters title page

I love that old Bing Crosby-Rosemary Clooney musical. I heard my mother and her three sisters refer to it often throughout their lives and thought how it applied to most all sisters, no matter what the age difference.

I’ve had the idea in the back of my mind for a long time to make a handmade book about (more…)

The scrapbooking industry is still on the rise despite economic factors, uncertain times and apathy. In fact, more and more people are turning to memory preservation as a way to keep family stories alive.

We all have gone into our favorite local scrapbook store (LSS) and come upon the latest and greatest new papers from one of our favorite companies and just had to have them – every one of them. (more…)

Stamping on Unusual Surfaces: Cork

I can draw just about anything, but for time’s sake, I usually prefer to stamp images on my work, whether it’s paper, cardboard, acetate or in today’s post, cork.

You can get cork from a variety of places: local discount chains, art suppliers, hardware stores or hobby stores. The samples here were made with Midwest Products cork, which I picked up at my local craft store. I chose the thicker cork for the book cover embellishment and thin cork for the artist trading card (ATC). (more…)
