This is really thinking outside the box. I have a birthday gift to mail and hate to have just a plain box. I may have gone just a little overboard, but the recipient is just like that, so I guess it will be ok. (more…)

Repurposed CD Tin
Wednesday, August 25th, 2010
I was going to write about the sweet potato vine that has taken over my deck today, but ran across a photo of a project I made late last year as part of a series of repurposed items. My friend Janet and I had shared an order of cd tins and several arrived with slight dents. Since it would have cost more to send them back and there were very few damaged, we just shared the handicapped ones as well. (more…)
“The biggest obstacle to professional writing is the necessity for changing a typewriter ribbon.” – Robert Benchley
Friday, August 13th, 2010
Thank goodness we don’t have to worry about typewriter ribbons anymore. The younger generation doesn’t even know what they are, but I remember the days of having a ribbon with black on the top and red on the bottom and when you had to change the darn thing, you wound up with hands so covered in ink that it looked as though they had been in a massacre. I returned from the Craft and Hobby Convention and Tradeshow and the CHA Consumer Show Sunday. I had a great time seeing new products, new ways to use old products and meeting friends.
This time, I saw a lot of new products. Maybe they aren’t new, but at least new to me.
1. There is a new portable scanner (more…)
Scrapbooking Supplies: Not Just for Scrapbooks Anymore!
Tuesday, August 3rd, 2010
The scrapbooking industry is still on the rise despite economic factors, uncertain times and apathy. In fact, more and more people are turning to memory preservation as a way to keep family stories alive.
We all have gone into our favorite local scrapbook store (LSS) and come upon the latest and greatest new papers from one of our favorite companies and just had to have them – every one of them. (more…)
Who says it has to be a scrapBOOK?
Friday, July 9th, 2010
I have made a lot of scrapbook pages and I love each and every one, even those that I made as a child when I had a huge book of news clippings about the Kennedy family (showing my age and my love of Camelot), my teen years when the Beatles, Herman’s Hermits and school sports memorabilia (Go, Scrappers!) captured my heart, and the early years of my marriage and birth of our son Michael. I can look back and see how I have evolved over the years as a designer and journaler. (more…)
Making Time for Crafting

Why is it we always make time for things that are important to our families, our churches, our schools, but not our craft?
Sure, those things are important and should come first in our lives, but do we ever stop and think about making time for ourselves?
I have this curse of feeling that I have to have everything done in the house and yard before I sequester myself in my studio. Actually sequester isn’t the right word, since my studio used to be the patio and contains the doors that open onto the deck. It’s hard to be sequestered when you have people traipsing through all the time, especially when they are doing their best to get you to come look at the garden, come for a swim, sit on the deck, etc. But enough of that. Why Am I A Scrapbooker?

Why do I feel the need to document my life? My husband’s life? My son’s life? Even our dogs’ lives?
I think it’s because I’m a historian at heart. I want to know the little tidbits of information that get lost in translation from one generation to another. I want to know the everyday ins and outs of my ancestors’ lives, how they lived and what was going on globally during their times, how they felt when they discovered the one they would spend their lives with, when they learned of an upcoming birth, even the tragedies that come with losing loved ones. All we have to do is ask. Unfortunately, I didn’t know the right questions to ask my parents and grandparents and now it’s too late. (more…)
